When it opened in 2004, Amazing Grapes was instantly one of the most savvy and well-stocked wine bars in South County. Wine lovers appreciated its deep inventory of 1,600 wines from Paso Robles to Provence and even some obscure areas of the wine-growing world.
After getting a new owner and a $323,000 renovation thanks to CNBC’s reality-makeover show, “The Profit,” the 5,000-square-foot store reopened in early 2014 and found new fans.
The expanded menu and dining area, new 18-tap beer selection and better-focused wine list resulted in a dramatically better bottom line and busier happy hours.
“We maintain strong relationships with craft breweries to ensure we get new products before anyone else,” the company website says. A thoughtful perk: You can purchase a bottle from the retail store for consumption in the wine bar for a small corkage fee. There’s live music on Fridays, Saturdays and some Wednesdays. Wednesday Hop Day is popular: All draft beer is $5 a glass, and there’s no corkage fee on wine or beer. Or bring your suds-swilling buddies for Taco Tuesday.
